I'm frequently commissioned by Tennis Australia to make short films and recently had the great privilege of producing two videos for the Certified Practising Accountants of Australia - one of the sponsors of the 2014 Australian Open.
It's every filmmakers dream to find a client who embraces the creative process and that's exactly what happened with this short film about Tennis Australia Chief Financial Officer David Roberts.
The brief was simple: use some cinematography toys to visually tell the story of CPA who makes million dollar decisions about one of the biggest and most successful Grand Slam tennis tournaments in the world.
I wanted to create a piece that showed a man who has his eyes over every square inch of Melbourne Park, where the Australian Open is held every year.
To do that I used the Movi to get that smooth, freeflowing, tracking shot as he walked around the compound. This is without doubt the most fun I've had on a film shoot. I was limited only by my imagination. We tracked along with him; tied a rope and lowered it off an observation deck, spun around in circles - it was just brilliant.
I used the Canon C300 and three cine primes and the guys from Ben's Camera hire came out with the rig to remotely pull focus and iris.
