Watch how Clement reverses Paul's point in 1 Corinthians 1:11ff, to make a blatant bid for power. All at the very time John had newly written, Revelation 17!

No mention of John, nor his Gospel, nor his epistles nor of course Revelation, are anywhere in Clement. How is that possible? So John isn't even dead yet, and already Clement is snubbing him? For his appeals to the Corinthians, why doesn't he mention the STILL LIVING, John? For John is either alive or dead when 'Clement' writes. If dead, he should be mentioned along with Paul and Peter. If alive, he should be SENIOR to Clement, given Clement's claim of bowing to your 'presbyters' (presbuteroi, in Greek, elders of each local church), as junior to THE APOSTLES, of whom only John, supposedly, was alive at that point. The other apostles aren't mentioned, either, but Revelation was dated by John's meter as 91 AD ('our' 94 AD). So if Clement wrote in 95AD, he should have those letters.

So Clement betrays his power grab and hypocrisy!!!

Sorry to be so blunt, but this is a stain on Christianity, that we ignore this obviously evil ploy, and even praise it. Shame belonged to whoever wrote the letter, and if in heaven now, that person doesn't want this letter praised. But frankly, the shame shifts to Us Christians now, that we don't lambast the letter. We've had 2000 years to 'discover' the above paragraph. Took me only five minutes search, in the pdf...

1 Clement Chapter 42, here: ccel.org/ccel/schaff/anf01.ii.ii.xlvii.html . It gets much worse after this turning point. Notice that it took him 42 paragraphs (chapters) to get to the point! (Letter starts, here: ccel.org/ccel/schaff/anf01.toc.html .) Never mind the other lies he also tells, like about phoenixes (which are Greek myths, pagan, Chapter XXV). Notice how John is never mentioned, and how Clement name drops to ASSOCIATE HIMSELF with the apostles, so to browbeat the Corinthians. They ignored his letter, apparently. But 100 years later, someone else was supporting this bilious position, also in Corinth. So the apostasy, won out.
