Shot a video this morning with the sunrise, ¨Three mothers- Tres Madres¨right before leaving Mexico with the three woman that raised me, to whom I owe who I am today. Three generations apart Lupita is 85 years old, my mother is 65, and Andrea is 45. The three expressed the fear of dying without me saying goodbye to them because we leave so far apart. Starting from the youngest to the oldest, sitting in front of each other in opposing chairs, we both hold a heart in our hands and checked each others pulse in the jugular vein, Imitating each other’s heart beat, until our hearts synchronize to the same pulse. A visual representation of the life force that keeps us both alive and united through distance. Thank you Laiwan, for the motivation to do this, thank you VestAndPage because this piece developed from one of your workshops, thank you Fifth Wednesdays (Allison Halter), and Jeremy Harris for waking up so early to help me with the shooting. I am forever in debt with my mother, Sonia Balcazar, Lupita Espinoza, and Andrea Mateos for all their sweat, blood and tears, and also for their care, love, and understanding. Three pillars in my life and some of the strongest woman I know. Here is a little preview.
