"Identity" is a video about adaptation. After moving to a new country where you don't speak the language, everything is a new start. A learning process. In this video, words are not important, that is why the two screens play simultaneously. The important part is how body language changes from one language to the other. How one speech interrupts the other. When you are in a place where you don't understand the language, every word becomes a noise. I wanted to recreate this feeling of confusion, where you can not escape the noise, and instead, you find yourself trying yo interpret what ever word that sounds familiar and connect it to the body language to try to understand.
I placed two screens together. On the first one, I am speaking freely in front of the camera, about my experience in the new country. On the second screen, I am reading a text from the book "How to Understand and Use a Norwegian" by Odd Børretzen.
