This is a recut version of our diploma main-theses, Roman Jungblut and I did 2009. It is about how the internet enables us to change roles or identities in a matter of a mouseclick. Our theses also tried to aswer questions like, how does the constant changing of roles effect the idividual or the society? To which extend can and should one control his own identities on the net. Does having multiple identies online effect the real world identity?

What you see here is only a recut version of the actual three animations. Each of them represents one character, that uses different web-apps and therefore changes his identity. They are iteracting through marketplaces or chatrooms, always looking different, like you would see different people act different in different web-places. Also the animations where installed in a circular way, so you can only see one or two at a time by purpose. Anyways your where allways attracted by the sound of the other animation, since they all contain certain key-events, that are connected to loud crashing sounds. So you had to either concentrate on one piece of animation or constantly change your own perspective, to keep track of what was going on.

This might be a bit overcharging. However, there is a flash-version on my site (clausdanielherrmann.de/project_idnternet.htm), that is a bit closer to the exhibition and a lot easier to understand.

  • It is all done with Cinema 4D for Animation and rendering. Modeling was done in Silo and the bit of Texturing is Photoshop.
