The YMCA Musician's Village
The YMCA of the North Shore held its annual fundraising gala on Saturday, November 17th at the Sheraton Ferncroft Hotel in Danvers. The theme was Celebrating New Orleans. More than $166,000 was raised through the generous donations of approximately 600 people. The theme was chosen because YMCA leadership wanted to help the rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
In October 2007, 27 volunteers from the YMCA of the North Shore and its board traveled to New Orleans to build affordable housing with Habitat for Humanity. The group worked on two different houses in three days. This video premiered at the YMCAís gala to show the audience what the volunteers worked on and why it was important to give back to the New Orleans community.
Musician Harry Connick Jr. helped out by narrating the opening voice-over specifically for this fundraiser. Harry worked tirelessly in support of initiatives to gain attention and financial support for the people of New Orleans. More on The Musician's Village can be found at: nolamusiciansvillage.com .
