This edition of Salaam Shalom: Report on Palestine/Israel highlights the racism, violence and discrimination inherent in the Jewish settler movement, as documented in Julia Bacha's powerful film, "My Neighborhood." The film also demonstrates the power of nonviolent resistance and Jewish-Arab solidarity as Palestinians in East Jerusalem and Israeli Jews come together to stop the forced evictions of Palestinians by Jewish settlers in Sheik Jarrah. Julia Bacha's 2011 TED talk on Palestinian nonviolent resistance and the silence of the media on that nature and scope of that resistance is also featured on this program. The balance of the show features an interview with Israeli scholars Adi Ophir and Ariella Azoulay about their brilliant new book, "The One-State Condition: Occupation and Democracy in Israel/Palestine," a performance by Jasiri X of his song "Checkpoint," and a tribute to the Palestinian people produced by the Never Before Campaign, a collective of professionals and activists based in Beirut.
