This is the string calculator kata in Python using Vim with some customization. The test runner is Mote, which is very experimental and doesn't always work as well as this video makes it look. :) The blog post for this video is at blog.extracheese.org/2010/01/string-calculator-kata-in-python.html.

I concur, awesome. As a long time VIM user, I've recently been struggling w/ productivity and wondering if I need to consider a new IDE.

From your example, it looks like it's the man (me) not the machine so I'm looking forward to the post on your VIM setup!

Very cool. I'm almost inspired to have another go at learning vim etc. Just re-read Pragmatic Programmer and feel I should ...

Inspiring. Thanks for posting. Basically, what's the development cycle? Writing "assert" clauses and then running them with some keystroke? Thanks.

I'm doing TDD here, which is a process where we write the tests first and allow them to guide development. I run the tests by hitting ",t". I use "," as my leader key in Vim; the default is "\".

"," as leader always seemed strange to me. How can You live without ","/";" after f F t T commands? Or You don't use them? Or maybe You always append to them proper motion number?

Sometimes I use a motion; sometimes I just repeat the keystroke. It's a little unfortunate, but I map a lot of stuff to and reaching for \ that much would be very uncomfortable.
