promise, practice, protocol – performing future presences ist eine inszenierte Gruppenausstellung in drei Episoden:

promise – während der Eröffnung wird der Zuschauer durch ein noch unbehaustes Laboratorium geführt. Es zeigt, was ist und was auch sein könnte: wie sich im Laufe der kommenden Ausstellungsdauer Prozesse in Gang setzen, Positionen bezogen, Diskussionen geführt und Räume besetzt werden könnten. Die Eröffnung flüstert einen mehrstimmigen Monolog, in dem sich das Versprechen eines noch nicht ausformulierten Zukünftigen artikuliert.

practice – Künstler, Theoretiker und Gäste leben, denken, arbeiten, reden und feiern in den Ausstellungsräumen. Sie bilden eine Gemeinschaft auf Zeit. Workshops, Präsentationen, Führungen, Gespräche, Performances, offene Recherche-Prozesse und Round Tables verschmelzen dabei zu einer Dauerperformance, formieren das Bild einer Praxis, die erste Probe zu einem Stück, das es so nie geben wird.

protocol – Beobachter, Chronisten, Essayisten und Geschichtenerzähler begleiten diesen Prozess. Es entsteht ein kontinuierlich wachsendes Archiv. Partituren und Fundstücke, Fiktionen und Protokolle, Skizzen und Fotografien zeichnen die Geschichte und Zukunft einer Welt, die es so nie gegeben hat. Eine Welt, die erst in der Vorstellungskraft ihrer Betrachter entsteht. Ein Versprechen, das aus den Kombinationsmöglichkeiten bruchstückhafter Indizien erwächst.

promise, practice, protocol performing future presences is a staged group exhibition in three episodes:

(1) promise - The laboratory is built up, the materials are prepared, the frame got shifted, the time line started, and now? The opening of the exhibition does not display what is there but what could be there, the processes that could be launched within the following weeks, the positions that could be taken, possible discussions that could be held and spaces to be occupied. The opening whispers a polyphone monologue that articulates the promise of a not yet defined future.

(2) practice - an open working space, an exhibition of dialogues and the first rehearsal for a piece that will in this way never come to existence. During this episode – the 52h-laboratory – questions from an extensive catalogue will be asked, that reflect moments of communal and personal irritation. What am I doing here? What is holding us together? Who speaks when I say „I«? Which kind of „We« is constituted in collaborative structures? What do we work for? Or put differently: do we really or always need an answer? In a continuous dialogue, artists, theoreticians and guests form a temporal community. They live, think, work and celebrate together in the Akademie. Public workshops, presentations, tours, work-meetings and other discursive, performative and installed formats melt into a constant performance and thus articulate the attempt of a different practice.

(3) protocol - observers, essayists, storytellers and encyclopedians accompanied the practice. They present their perspective and contribute to an ever growing archive. Notations and found objects, fictions and protocols, sketches and photographs draw the story and future of a world that has never existed as such. A world that is only constituted in the observers imagination. A promise that grows from the mosaic potential of a large sum of particularities. The first and last rehearsal to a piece, who’s continuation is dictated by its observer. The last episode has been an audio-walk through traces, sounds and leftovers of the previous process.
