I developed and produced this film. Working with Bill Cran, Steven Leibman, and a large team, we took on the task to study propoganda generated on both sides of the Cold War.
War, the rampaging horse of the apocalypse, had trampled down all that remained of Tsarist Russia. Driven by the dynamic forces of the Industrial Revolution and the new ideology of Marx and Lenin, the old and once grand dynasty of the Romanovs was gone. Who would the Russian people turn to now to heal their wounds, to lead them? Perhaps the men who had led them into the Revolution would be best to lead them in this time of peace. But the social and cultural change they promised turned to a sick megalomania feeding on a weakened and vulnerable people used to centuries of being ruled. Modern times delivered unique tools of persuasion and deception. Lenin and Stalin created a propaganda machine unprecedented in history. It would continue long after their deaths. Those who didn't like it, and many of those who did, were executed.
