Tailor Made Support for Young Unemployed: an example
Young unemployed and school dropouts (16 – 23 years) are guided towards work or school via Tailor Made for Youth (Trajekt op Maat, T.O.M.). T.O.M. is part of the policy strategy of the city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch to reduce youth unemployment and early school leaving. Participants do not have the necessary basic qualification to enter the labour market. Youth workers and job coaches work with the youngsters for three days a week. The activities are in groups and individually; based on the needs of the young people. They participate from 3 months to 1 year, all voluntarily. 70% of them find a job or start a formal education or training. The development of peer networks is also a success factor; most of them were not having friendships before.
