Sandwich - DVD-X
Basically, one day, Raimund told me, "I want you to make our video for DVD-X. I don't want to act in it, so let's have Mong act in it. And I want Edu Manzano to come in and shoot all of us because we're pirates."
The concept stemmed from there. I also wanted to pay homage to Tarantino and John Woo (and a little Darren Aronofsky), so that's in there as well. At first, I wanted to shoot in a slaughterhouse, but Raimund wanted a shoot that wouldn't be too bloody, too arduous, and that "wouldn't smell," hence the ice plant.
But thanks to Murphy's Law, we happened to shoot this video on the day that Typhoon Milenyo struck. So, as we shoot Mong being tortured, houses, billboards, and rooftops are flying in the air outside. The cast and crew roamed the plant in constant blackout darkness, where our cellphones doubled up as flashlights.
This was the one and only shoot where my constant thought was, "Please, Lord. Please don't let anyone die today."
The fact that we had a gun shoot-out scene didn't help either. Raimund wanted the band to be shot with a shotgun, but my movie fangirl fought back, demanding Edu to have a gun in each hand. We were under a limited budget though, and I had to tell Edu (embarrassingly), "Uh, sir? You only have 6 blank shots for this scene. That's all we can afford. Is that okay?" Luckily, Edu is AWESOME and he said, "I'll just play out the scene and I will pay for all the bullets that I'm going to use." To which I replied, "DEAL."
Thank you, Mr. Manzano, for paying for all those bullets.
Enjoy this video where, amazingly, no one was harmed. (Only the city outside was, thanks to fucking Milenyo.)
