A guest performance by:

Leif Holmstrand, Oscar Hielm, Per Lindberg and Oskar Lindwall (SE)
Little Albert ( Lille Albert)
Performance: 15th & 16th of December, 2009
Duration: 2 hours.

Lilith Performance Studio shows a guest performance by the artist Leif Holmstrand, who together with Oscar Hielm, Per Lindberg and Oskar Lindwall created a fragmentary lecture performance including conversing and sabotaging insertions by musicians. A hairy café host/hostess looked after the audience.

Parts of the material in this performance are taken from an experiment done 1920 by John B. Watson and Rosalie Rayner. The intention with the experiment was to demonstrate classical conditioning through experimentation using a child, "Albert", who was only 9 months old when the experiment began, to react with fright on certain impressions. The practical aim was to make the little boy horrified of a white rat. Other stimulus that also occurred was: hair, cotton, a dog and so on.

A lecturer sits at a desk with an overhead on the side that shows a sketch over the conditioning experiment of the little boy Albert.
The lecture is read in one-hour loop. The room is set as a café with squared tables with cheap paper tablecloth for the guest to sit by. Two musicians are placed on a podium in the opposite corner of the lecturer. With different instruments they create sound and noise to illustrate and distract the lecture. The sounds becomes like interference and a comment to what is said.
A hairy café host/hostess circulates the room with a food trolley and serves the guests coffee from big thermoses and cookies to go with the coffee. He/she hands out paper cards with printed text, quotes from the Indian writer and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore.

Leif Holmstrand is an artist and author, living in Malmo. He is combining traditional handcraft with a fascination for horror movies and burlesque popular culture. The theme in his works is similar irrespective of expression: a dreamlike gender dissolution, were he tries to find and stretch the cultural and biological boundaries of the body.
Holmstrand had a solo production in the Studio, March 2008 - Cabaret Sally Rattenmann.

Per Lindberg and Oscar Hielm works with theatre and other forma of performing arts, as composers, improvisers and acting musicians, sometimes together and sometimes not. Per and Oscar also perform sometimes as Desinformation, ” a blue-yellow circus orchestra from hell”.

Oskar Lindwall is lecturer in pedagogy at the University of Gothenburg. His research is about learning and social response.
