“Shitty Monday” (2014, RT 2:13) Mild NSFW
“Shitty Monday” is a fictionalized account of what Monday, February 3rd, 2014, felt like. Anybody who was near the internet or a TV will understand this film.
It was snowing that day, and I liked the light, so I randomly started getting some shots with my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. This continued into the night. Later, I cut together a 50-second reel of the footage (using about 1/3 of the shots), not thinking it added up to anything — though considering it might be a start for something.
By Wednesday, the idea for the short clicked, and I spent Wednesday and Thursday shooting and assembling the short without any audio. Friday was about creating the music, which required a constant back and forth between Premiere Pro CC and Garageband. Adding music adjusted the pacing and extended the run time by about 30-seconds. On Saturday and Sunday, I reshot a couple of inserts, did compositing with After Effects and color with DaVinci Resolve Lite.
On a technical note, I’d like to point out that 95% of the short was shot at ASA400. I believe there are 4 shots where I used ASA800. This was solely because of the extra 1 2/3 stops I got from using a Metabones Speed Booster. The Speed Booster opened up the T1.5 glass to roughly T0.9.
