In December 2012, as part of the wider effort to halt the declining number of Arctic charr in Llyn Padarn, Natural Resources Wales harvested Arctic charr eggs and seminal fluid (milt). The fish were caught at their spawning beds in the Afon y Bala, at the top of the lake, using fyke nets [loving-our-lake.org/2012/12/18/helping-arctic-charr/]
After being incubated in tanks with critically controlled water temperature for around three months and then reared at the Mawddach hatchery near Dolgellau; around 5700 young fish were transported back to Llyn Padarn in October 2013 to be released.
