NOW NEW THE DIRECTORS CUT -> vimeo.com/17689319

This is a special low-light movie about the city dresden.

In the first week in January 2010 i stayed overnight in Dresden (Germany). Virgin snow was falling. It was too cold - minus 9 degree - a real cold winter night.

I took my Canon 7D with a 24-70 Sigma f2.8 lens and went to the historic city of Dresden.

This is a HD test-footage with night shots under extreme low-light.

The raw material is 1280x720 pix in 50fps which was down-sampled to 25fps - no FX and digital filter used.

The music title "Opera 27 Moonlight (extend)" comes from KORA3000. Licensing over productiontrax.com.

Do you remember your ISO setting?

The footage looks smooth but I think you need a quicker lens.

I wonder if the slowmotion 1280 x 720 50 FPS with a shutter speed of 100th cost you a Full Stop.

On full screen with my IMAC 24 the buildings are great but the black sky is grainy and a bit noisey.

Hello, did you downloaded the footage as WMV-file or do you use the vimeo screen?

the noisy Sky is my boo boo - i took 3200 ISO setting, and next time i must take a F1.4 or F1.2 lens with max 1600 ISO.

I downloaded the original WMV file .... amazing improvement in quality and overall definition.

Sky still noisy but not blocky.

This time I can clearly see the starlight definiton of car headlamps and the buildings - all very good.

Recently I went to 2000 ISO and it was also too noisy .... sometimes you just need more LIGHT or at least SOME Light or the 1.4 !

The expense never stops with DSLR photography!

P> BLOOM on his 7d DVD Tutorial suggest that 1600 ISO is as far as we should go. I am sure he is right! I am delighted with the photographic potential of the 7d.

Good to see Dresden looking so very beautiful.

How long does it usually take for you to edit a clip like this in HD? I know when I use After Effects it takes a really really long time to come out. If you use After Effects could you tell me your settings?
