Chicago is home to several "hackerspaces" where do-it-yourself enthusiasts can work in a communal setting and utilize shared tools. Pumping Station: One is a non-profit in Avondale that offers its members 24/7 access to its workshop, machinery and community space. The Chicago Public Library opened its Maker Lab at Harold Washington Library Center in the Loop last July. Maker Lab offers free classes and low-cost access to 3D printing and computer-controlled cutting tools to the general public.
