The 1961 Maxwell House Hotel Fire
This rare video came from a Regular 8mm movie camera and is shown by permission from the Kurzenske family. The historic Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville Tennessee caught fire on Christmas day 1961 and burned to the ground. To our knowledge these are the only moving images that exist today.

Robert Heywood 2 years agoI never realized how big the hotel was -- or that it burned for so long. -

Dennis Faulkner 1 year agoDid anyone ever find out what caused the fire? I find it interesting that they couldn't put it out before the building burnt to the ground - it looked like they had a lot of water on it - -
toni Krantz 1 year agoMy Grandmother lived on the 5th floor of the old Maxwell House. We lived 25 miles away from Nashville and didn't hear of the fire until the 5 o'clock news that night. I recall the tense hours until my parents were able to locate her - she had been out when the fire started and was on the sidewalk in the crowd watching the firefighters as the building burned.
