In 2006, Michael Pinchbeck devised a performance with an amateur dramatics group that was his introduction to theatre. The performance explored acts of communion that take place in a church hall – weddings, christenings, funerals and plays. There were no stage directions. Acts of communion was a site-specific project as practice as research into absence and presence for a Masters degree at Nottingham Trent University.
