    really like the amber ripples in this one and how it obscures the map... can really see the piece evolving from a statistical representation to something more abstract.

    how were you able to get the map and all those coordinates into processing?

    The points on the map are just the center-points of zip codes. You can get them somewhere from the Census database.

    There's also an excellent chapter in Ben Fry's "Visualizing Data" about plotting Zips with nice projection and all that.
