I thought it would be a fun project to write and record a pop tune using nothing but cellos, then make a video of the performance. The original goal was to keep everything entirely acoustic, with no recording studio effects or other processing. I quickly abandoned that idea to get more variety of sounds, but everything you hear was played entirely on my cello. There are 37 separate cello parts recorded on 23 tracks using 37 plug-in effects. I don't know if I should be embarrassed to admit I spent hundreds of hours on this project, or proud to have paid so much attention to detail. You be the judge.

Ethan, that's very well done! I don't think I've seen anyone do so much with just one instrument before. That's Sonar you're using, right?

Thanks Glenn. Yes, I used Sonar for the audio and Vegas for the video. More on my Rondo page: ethanwiner.com/cellorondo.html

    Ethan,
I found your website by searching, "How to play cello." I am 42 years old this month and have never played an instrument, but really want to learn how to play the cello. I feel encouraged by your essay, "In the Express Lane: Learning to play the cello as an adult." Of course I am much more disadvantaged than you because I have no experience with music and I am left handed, yet I appreciate your suggestions and hope I can find a teacher in Hawaii. Maybe if I am persistent with practice..
I enjoyed your, A Cello Rondo. You make playing look joyous.

Ethan-- that is such a way-y-y groovy piece. Too cool. Gorgeous harmonies. A virtuosic perfoemance and part layering.

I'm missing your nekkid girl to tie you up, though. (-:

Incredible work! I also really appreciated the short "making of" section at the end.

It's really interesting that you happen to play cello and have a greenscreen setup, because I've been looking into recreating the multiple-arm effect in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=ldPf3yqq3-8 .

We should collaborate on something in the future if you're interested.

I don't have a rep, but I'm not looking for new composing work. But if you know a way to make money selling stuff I've already done I'm all ears! :->)

This is such a fantastic piece. I have yet to see such variation on cello, and I have seen quite a lot. I think you did well with this. I did laugh, because of the graphics that you used, it made it have a trippy feel to it. I like it. Original and a masterpiece
