This was an Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race like none other.  Warm weather and lack of snow on the trail out of the Anchorage area, opened the opportunity for the race to move north.  This decision for the change of the restart location as well as the trail, was a challenge to the ITC and the mushers.  In fact, decisions were made and altered right up to the race dates.
A final decision rerouted the trail.  This alternate route went from Fairbanks to Ruby then to the checkpoints of the northern route on the Yukon River to Katltag.  From Kaltag, the mushers made a loop down to Anvik and back before joining up with the main trail to the coast and on to Nome.  This was the year to mush the Yukon River.
The video clip for today’s podcast, was produced by fifth grade students who used the video I took at the Restart.
Experience a Restart: watch  and listen  to the dogs, the mushers’ send off, the introductions for the mushers, and the count down to GO!!!
