Spacetime | Watch Concept Inspired by Celestial Orbits

Spacetime | Watch Concept Inspired by Celestial Orbits

Dan Salisbury

Spacetime is an original watch concept based on the movement and orbits of celestial objects, in particular that of our own planet around the sun.

I've always been fascinated in how our concept of time on Earth is relative to its motion around the sun; how a day is a day and a year is a year because of this motion. This was the inspiration for Spacetime.

With regard to the form I wanted to do something completely at odds with conventional watch designs and create something inherently simple, ensuring the single focus is the movement of the time spheres. Functionally, the mechanical orbit of these time spheres distorts the surface of the TPE over-mould which ensures the form is kept simple in a unique way.

This is my first stab at an animation, using a combination of Keyshot and After Effects. A result which I'm very pleased with, particularly with the addition of the soundtrack composed by Jonny Salisbury (please get in touch if you're interested in his services).
