Since 1971 the Free Medical Clinic of Iowa City has been working to provide affordable healthcare for people in the community and surrounding areas. The clinic has changed tremendously since its start as a tear down each night facility. They were able to move to a permanent basement location and now to their own facility. Even with the growth and development of the clinic, more changes could be coming. The enforcement of the Affordable Healthcare Act leaves people questioning if free clinics are still needed or just how they will fit in the future healthcare system.
