In this video press release, Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson) and Assembly Majority Leader Louis D. Greenwald (D-Camden), along with parents of school children killed in the 2012 Newtown, Ct., shooting and gun safety advocates, continue to support advancing legislation that would ban high-capacity ammunition magazines in New Jersey.
Under current law, magazines capable of holding a maximum of 15 rounds of ammunition are legal in the state. The bill (A-2006) would reduce the lawful maximum capacity of ammunition magazines in the state to 10 rounds. The limit proposed by the bill would bring New Jersey laws in line with the magazine limits contained int he original 1994 federal assault weapons ban.
The measure was first approved by the Assembly in February 2013 as part of the Assembly Democratic gun violence prevention package, but it did not receive further consideration after being referred to the Senate.
