Give it a minute to download. This was a day hike me and josh mckague did in the rocky mountain national park.
From 9405 ft to 14255 ft above sea level, the highest point. Something harder happened since that hike, but up until then it was the hardest thing I'd ever done. Josh didn't make it all the way up because of the pain in his head, see it's so high up that everything decompresses and that hurts, and you can't breathe because the air is so thin, and that makes something like a tough hike excrutiating.
I made it to the top, but I did not make it back. I'm still there at the peak, on those boulders, with that wind, and that sun, trying so hard to catch my breath.

Wow. The last paragraph of your clip description is as poetic as the images.

i feel a little dumb for asking, but what is the musical piece being played? i know i recognize it, but the name simply will not come to me.

oh, don't feel dumb! It's Beethoven's piano sonata number 8 in C minor. I first heard it, I think, in the Cohen bros film The Man Who Wasn't There. The usage of the song in the movie is spectacular, haunting, check it out!

I don't mean to go all Bill Nye science nerd on you but I'm studying for the MCAT and this is fresh in my head...

I think your friend may have been experiencing Hypoxic Hypoxia where your blood is deprived of sufficient oxygen supply. This happens to a lot of people when hiking high altitudes.

I got really excited when I read your description because I could actually relate it to what I have been jamming in my head the past few months.

Sorry for taking up this space with such a completely nerdy post.
