In Tanzania, DR Congo, and Burundi more than 400,000 people are living in exile, and have been for up to 10, 20, and sometimes even 40 years.
When considering their options, refugees are often only offered one alternative by the regional governments in the Great Lake region: voluntary repatriation. This option is unthinkable to many, and has proven limited in recent times.
Local Voices - in partnership the Danish Refugee Council and its local partners - met refugees in the region to discuss another option that remains largely unexplored and often overlooked: local integration in the host countries.
70 interviews, and six locations spaning three countries resulted in a 21 minute documentary that seeks to encourage reflection, debate, and especially give back a voice to the voiceless.
