Took the Canon 7D with on a trip to the city. There is still a bit a learning curve – my first go at a DSLR video solution. The thing I like most is people don’t seem to mind a “still picture” camera, try standing on the street corner with a Sony EX1 and everyone wants to know what you are filming. Focus is a bit of an issue – solution I think is to turn off the “Live View” focus, set the camera for quick focus (and press the focus button before you hit record), otherwise it chases and hunts till you hit the “record” button, then it stops auto focus. Guess I have been spoiled with the “peaking” function in my other cameras.
Tech Notes:
ISO set at 6400 for all shots
24fps
10mm to 22mm Canon lens 3.5
24mm to 70 mm Canon L lens 2.8 (very nice)
Program mode & manual mode used
Avid Media Composer – LOTS & LOTS of color correction
Output for Vimeo, h264, max 4,000, no frame reorder
Special thanks to Kristi for the in-car camera work, sorry your toes got cold standing on the street corner
