A press recording of the brief first comments by Elvis, at age 23, upon arriving at the 3rd Armored Division on October 1, 1958. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Armor Regiment; Ray Barracks; Friedberg, Germany. Elvis was a member of a recon-scout platoon, saw considerable field duty, and eventually achieved the rank of Sergeant E-5.
