The Media Component of my Master's Thesis in Anthropology at UCSC, this was shot throughout the Bay Area with a Panasonic DVX-100B. In this film I've experimented with the shaky-cam style because of the challenges posed when shooting in areas that boast wind speeds in excess of 50MPH, with giant gusts that just laugh at a tripod...
I'd like to preface the film by saying that I'm a strong proponent of sustainable energy from alternative sources like wind power. That said, lest we be doomed to make the same mistakes as previous generations who wholeheartedly embraced the use of fossil fuels to power global industrialization, we need to thoroughly consider the environmental impacts of each new technological solution to the climate change problem.
We need to take political action to ensure that the Altamont Pass Wind Farm receives the massive overhaul it needs to become safe for raptors, bats, and all of the flying creatures with whom we share this biosphere.
