This place easily captures ones imagination.
In the dead zone we didn’t encounter eight-legged frogs, giant grown trees or mutant children. But the breathtaking silence was more we could have ever imagined for. It’s hard nót to make a fantasy out of this place.

Back home in Holland there was some extensive and outraged media coverage about the Ukrainian Government turning Chernobyl and its post-nuclear landscape into a hotspot for tourism. Having been there we know this was of course complete nonsense. In Kiev it was almost a mission impossible to find a travel-agency who could help us get into the restricted zone around Chernobyl.

They replicate it very well in Call of Duty MW1.

The game "Stalker: shadow of chernobyl" Also features alot in this footage. That vehicle junkyard features as a place called 'Garbage' in it. Never realised it was a real site til now :o

Firstly, I think this is fucking AWESOME! So, SO unbelievably cool except to say that the nuclear meltdown that made Chernobyl what it is today totally was NOT cool, that much I certainly acknowledge, but, given things turned out the way they did, I definitely think it's pretty damn cool to have this entire shell of a town/city left standing from the blast.

Secondly, however, I found the audio track mixed with this video really quite incredibly jarring and annoying. It started good with the ambiance from about 00:00 to around 02:00 -ish but parts like 02:10 really got to me and, quite frankly, pissed me right off, lol.

I just didn't think it suited the mood of the piece and as I said, thought it was quite jarring overall. I really just wanted to immerse myself in the image and continue to listen to ambiance, to be honest.

Really can't stress enough how annoying I found it, otherwise though, really great vid, definitely cool and very interesting.

    Cheers,

    Rig ;D

Rig, it was not a nuclear explosion, it was a steam explosion. People were evacuated and their homes were raided later, there was no blast of Hiroshima/Nagasaki kind.

I played the game STALKER - Shadow of Chernovil which has a very detailled reply and when i saw the video i feeled like i had been there before ... It scared me a litle bit.

Instead of this the images are precious, this video is amazing !

  • You see, man does not have the answer for what to do w/nuclear waste....let's build more nuke power plants..shall we!!! God help us to wake up and smell the radiation......before it's too late....this also could be a promo for the movie "Left Behind".....

  • The humans are death, but the plants growing up and up and up. The Nature it's the most powerful. Salut

great film, i love the way you added music and sounds to the footage as if it were a place alive. How high was the level of radiation in buildings in Pripyat and on your camera?

    Thanks Rene

Working on a project in Ukraine myself at present. Still deciding whether or not to visit Chernobyl. Excellent video though and very well put together.
