This is seriously one of the most EPIC videos I've seen... Literally watched it about 100 times.....

Great choice of music, and I want that camera.

Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

    I've blogged it here: hypemuch.com

Wow that camera is awesome. I'm watching this on a 27 inch screen and it is holding up incredibly well. I wont push my 5dmk2 past 1600 because of the noise.

What shots are 6400? I really am having a hard time noticing any huge difference between 2k and 6.4k

I don't know if you want to call this a test but thanks for the post.
  • Hey man thanks for checking it out...yeah I really can't tell you which shots are 6400 and which aren't...I was just enjoying the night and not really focusing on a true test....I think for the most part I was at 3200....that's what I remember going to the most.

Really nice footage. Love the timelapses! What lens are you using?
  • hey thanks a lot, pretty much all of the shots are with the Canon 35mm 1.4....the only other lens I used was a 24mm for the time lapse shots.
  • Bobby Schutz 1 year ago
how did you do the time lapse shots? Can you elaborate a little more on that?

I am not sure how you got your hands on one, or how they allowed you to post footage of one, everyone I know that has one, has sworn on their posterity and kept it a secret. But Props on the video, It looks amazing, have you loaded a color profile and curve for the Camera?
  • The 1D MKIV are already on the market....
  • Nathan Balli plus 2 years ago
Unless you have connections, they are not selling them to too many people until after the Olympic Games in Toronto
  • haha really? that's hilarious, we just bought it online...im sure you can do the same....and no we haven't loaded any color profiles or curve into the camera...would you mind giving us some advice on the topic?...not too familiar with it. Thanks for the feedback, we really appreciate it.
  • Nathan Balli plus 2 years ago
I know you can increase the Dynamic Range to give you more control of the image with the 5D and 7D , here is a tutorial vimeo.com/7256322

But Props Again on the video I have watched it quite a few times now, and it's got a great vibe and even better cinematography.

This was great! Really enjoyed it. Was that a proper timelapse or footage sped up? Either way it was very cool.
  • The timelapse was shot with stills...I think it was 12 second exposures every 15 seconds...

Awesome. One of most beautiful pieces I've seen with DSLR equipment. Hey, what lenses were you using? Just kidding... I see that despite your specific mention of the 35 1.4, you were asked this question about 20 times.
  •
  • The video is just amazing. What's the track's name please?
  • Thanks a lot, the song is : Fljótavík by Sigur Rós
  •
  • I managed to find it. If anyone is interested it's called Fljótavík. Some of the lyrics are actually in a gibberish language called Volenska.

    Ok :(
  • haha that's great...burning Dan was just a silly name for a party we're trying to make an annual event...we collected everyone's christmas trees and stacked them as high was we could...next year we're shooting for 100 trees...haha

  • Peter Baanen plus 2 years ago
Very nice. BTW: Interesting how the bright star at the left looks at 1:06. Some distortion of the lens me thinks makes it a small curved line.

    Thanks!
  • yeah i liked that too...most likely a UFO
  • Grant Westhoff 2 years ago
Actually i'd have to say its probably not a star but a Galaxy or a Nebula! I caught that too, and if it were a distortion effect you would see it change like a lens flare does, but the shape and size stays consistent. Anyways good work on the video! I'm waiting for the next 5D MkIII for my 60p footage ;)

great, great job and thanks for your explaination of the timelapse work! Why burning Dan?
  • mark castro plus 2 years ago
did i miss the explanation of the TL? I don't se it.
  • Thank you very much, really appreciate it...not sure if I fully explained the timelapse stuff, but it was at 1600 ISO, shooting 12 second exposures, every 14 or 15 seconds....I think the first one ran for about an hour and the second was a little longer....I was pretty side tracked by the party and wasn't really paying attention so that's the best I can do for info. Thanks for watching.
  • mark castro plus 2 years ago
thanks for the reply back. so 1600 ISO at 12 sec exposures every 14 seconds. wow. i was thinking something along the line of every 5 seconds. nice. any reason you pick 14 sec exposure at every 14 sec rather than smaller exposure with shorter shots. something like 4sec exposure at every 6seconds?

That was utterly marvelous... At the start I was laughing with you guys at the cheesy dialogue, and then the music started, serious yet gently playful. And then...well, I was amazed. I believe what you captured is the essence of friendship and camaraderie. And the shots of the fire brought an even deeper meaning still to the wonderfully magical atmosphere.

    Thank you.
  • Wow, thank you so much for sharing your interpretation of this video....that is completely awesome to get feedback from people that we don't even know...definitely makes me want to keep making more. Thank you.

beautiful work... nice concept. awesome camera. They do a similar thing in Marblehead, MA with the annual burning of the Christmas trees on the harbor. One of these days I'm gonna document it... first I gotta get that Canon 7D.

Wow, so impressive!.. amazing look and feel.. inspires me to keep learning more about light and colour correction with my 7D!

I'm wondering how you made the colours so rich.. did you adjust the 1D's white balance and/or Picture Style settings, or do all the colour adustment while editing?
  • ummmm actually we haven't even messed with any settings yet...just shot it and then crushed the blacks in post. That's pretty much it....most of the shots just had some cool lighting, like late day sun, twilight and fire
  •
  • randy chia 2 years ago
great looking shots and very well edited!

the timelapse was obviously on a tripod, but how about all of the other shots? was that handheld?
  • Hey thanks man...yeah it was a mixture of tripod and handheld shots....shooting in slow motion helps with the handheld stuff
