Feathered step parents - Gizi and Bendegúz in the nest (HELICON LIFE short films - Part 2.)
Endangered birds of prey nesting in Hungary still face permanent risk of being shot or poisoned.
After the death of their father caused by poisoned bait, saving the lives of the orphaned chicks required quick reactions, high level of professionalism and a great amount of luck from the staff of the Körös-Maros National Parks Directorate. Gizi and Bendegúz -- as they named them -- are among the luckier ones, but help comes late or not at all for many of their conspecifics.
Protecting the imperial eagles is the main goal of the LIFE Project (LIFE 10NAT/HU/019, imperialeagle.hu) run by Birdlife Hungary (MME) and its partners. The program launched in 2012 with the financial support of the EU and the Ministry of Rural Development. Documentaries on the project are produced by Filmjungle.eu.
