PARADISE IN MOSCOW is a playful film about the complicated relationship between East and West. Focusing on the fragile friendship between the Russian Czar Peter the Great and his Dutch physician, Nicolas Bidloo.
After 300 years they meet again in modern day Moscow. The friends still regard each other, and what’s become of Russia, with mixed feelings. Bidloo’s perspective is that of the Humanist, Peter believes in power and war. He quotes his great example Machiavelli who stated that it’s more important for a ruler to be feared than loved…
The question is whether things have changed in Russia since the days of Peter and Bidloo…
