Come aboard as the VBS crew takes a cruise to the Northern Gyre in the Pacific Ocean, a spot where currents spin and cycle, churning up tons of plastic into a giant pool of chemical soup, flecked with bits and whole chunks of refuse that cannot biodegrade.

Really fascinating and food for thought for our World's future, added to our WorldHD channel to spread the knowledge and increase our awareness :))

  • oh my god. Horrible! :( What is being done about this?
  •
  • This is a really fucking interesting video. But there is one fucking part that kind takes away from it. The first fucking person you see talking says "fuck" like 4 fucking times. It's like watching Schindler's List and the the first 5 fucking minutes is a Ren and Stimpy cartoon. It strips away all the fucking intelligence of the video before it even has a fucking chance. I don't find it offensive, but the way he uses it is just flat out horrible fucking grammer.
  • otto lejeune 1 year ago
Exactly. Great documentary... and then the goof starts spouting off. And here I was thinking about showing this to my kids...
    What a waste.
Maybe they should re-edit and remove him...
  • Michaela plus 1 year ago
Maybe you should just teach your kids to use less plastic - the "goof" is giving you the chance to do that by telling this story
  • We know what the fucking story is about. But the video itself would have more of a fucking impact if it didn't have some fucking slack-jawed yokel rattling of the f-word right in the middle of it. Not only does it fucking prove that that the guy has a limited vocabulary, but the way he fucking uses the word proves he also has a very limited grasp of the whole fucking construct of the english fucking language.

Fuck man it is not a big deal. He was just using it because he was obviously disgusted.
  • Ben Gillin 1 year ago
Traughber, I agree with you. However, I find it more interesting that you don't take your own advice when it comes to not using the "f" word. For someone so concerned about other people's usage of the "f" word, you sure do use it a lot. How do you think this makes you look?

VBS.tv does it again with another valuable documentary.
  • Shaun Edward Goo 1 year ago
Get a fuckin clue Ben.... Traughber Productions was being an ironic smart ass by saying fuck in his comment.

All fucks aside... I agree. The "goof" was irritating and pointless in an otherwise good documentary. He also says "like" a lot.
  • Please re-edit. I loved it, but there are so many people who I just can't send this to because of the profanity. The producer needs to re-think the edit and make some better choices for the impact of this film. Artistically I get it... but a good producer needs to makes the hard choices for what is best for the project - and I think the profanity really takes it off track. my 2 cents.
  • Right-on, Bracken! You hit it right on the head!
  • evan c 1 year ago
But it's a good video for the niche audience - sure you can't send it to kids but it's alright for adults. It's a bit jarring having the narrator/talent speak is such an obscene but basically conversational way - but it's not a mass consumption tv show here.

VBS is a web TV founded by Vice Magazine. You cannot expect them to be politically or religiously correct or have decent language.

And we love them for that.

This is great but, where is the rest of it? I want to see this island in the Pacific????
  • evan c 1 year ago
    yeah where's part 2 it's been 4 months huh
  • Martin G 1 year ago
It's actually an older documentary from 2008. You can watch it in full on VBS's website... they even uploaded last month a full length version (rather than having to watch multiple episodes):

There is no Island. The plastic is all broken up and small and floating near the surface. Its not blatantly visible.

Jr. needs a bar of soap in his mouth. I wouldn't show this to my kids just because of his language.

Great job. Nice to see that vbs is making use of Vimeo - have a bit of beef with the quality of the video though, the conversion wasn't done properly.

My god, people need to chill out about the language, this film was produced by Vice. Now their target audience aren't really going to be that offended by, to be frank, in this day and age, fairly mediocre amount of swearing. If you want to show your kids something about this, then how about the numerous news articles shown within the video, or maybe, just maybe, realise that the environment, and saving it, is more important than what words your children hear.
