a trip through south and west india. the majority of the clips are from a train ride which followed india's western coast from thrissur (trichur) to mumbai (the cape mumbai express, perhaps).

i went for a friend's wedding (january 2002); i decided called the video "mehndi" for a couple reasons:

- like a mehndi design, india is beautiful, rich and complex
- i was exposed incrementally to indian customs by living like the locals, much like the way the design was built up bit by bit, by a local.
- the trip can be likened to a mehndi's temporal properties: though the physical aspect is fleeting, there is a timeless nature to it.

i know much of it is shaky. (the source material was never intended to be used like this!) also, it looks like vimeo cut off the last couple seconds where the song fades out? grr.
