Produced through minimally directed action, “Play” features a group of women along an ocean shore carry objects made out of pink polystyrene that resemble guns. Their interactions introduce gestures of masculine gunplay at the same time implying an eroticism of the female body and remaking the tradition of male figures at play by the sea and the canon of 19th century American painting.
** can be seen as a single channel video or as part of a video installation: including two 8’ x 16’ wall projections placed opposite each other. An accompanying sculpture (gun rack) is hung on the entrance wall to the video installation with written elements (selected definitions of play) on the opposite side of the wall.
