Teachers Protest School Closing and Charter School Invasions
2 years ago
-While the mayor has cut school budgets by 10% in the last 2 years, charter schools received hundreds of millions in private funding and $210 million in public money.
-Many of our students don't even have textbooks to study at home with.
-While classrooms get less money, the mayor has spend more on data analysis and on a DOE whose budget and bureaucracy has skyrocketed.
- A Stanford study has shown that 87% of all charter schools nationwide perform at the same level or below the level of public schools.
-NYC, Charter Schools recruit our top level -3 and level -4 students, and displace the majority of our students in overcrowded and under-funded schools.
-Many of the schools at this rally become overcrowded with students displaced from other school closures.
-National Test Scores [NAEP] show NY students are not improving under under Mayor Bloomberg's reign.
-NY closings, which target mainly schools with predominantly Black and Latino students, demonstrate a racist government policy.
-Charter school co-locations in our public schools undermine and dismantle successful public schools.
