The Democratic Republic of Congo, the second largest country in Africa, is a country which is eager to control its own destiny.
Itineris takes you to Kivu, on the borders of Rwanda and Burundi, and on the shores of the lake which bears the same name.
The province has been greatly affected by a series of wars, and the laws of the strongest and most violent still hold sway, but Kivu is developing.
The region’s future seems to lie in the agricultural sector.
In the fabulous earth of the great lakes region grow some of the best young coffee plants in the world.
The Trade for Development Centre, a programme of the Belgian Development Agency which supports fair and sustainable trade, together with the Belgian NGOs, Oxfam-Solidarité and Oxfam-Wereldwinkels, provides support to the coffee-growing industry.
