Aquatic health, public health and resource efficiency are the main topics framed by the Global Compendium on Water Quality Guidelines and Standards - compiled by IWA and UNEP - UN Water. With a focus on efficient water management and usage it aims to be a reference tool for regulators, policy makers and water users worldwide. The publicly available database will further the discussion on water security.

UNEP and IWA are collaborating on ‘The Global Compendium on Water Quality Guidelines - Which Water for Which Use?’ in order to achieve the objectives of the UN Water Thematic Priority Area (TPA) on Water Quality –chaired by UNEP– and as part of the TPA on Water Quality work plan. The initiative aims to provide a state-of-the-art overview of water quality guidelines and standards worldwide, assisting decision-makers to determine which water quality is suitable for which use, promoting efficient use and ultimately, preventing water conflicts.
