    Viralata, this is a nice tutorial. You gave me some great ideas. BTW - I know how to reduce the number of vertices in any curve:
    1. hit "B" - select all points
    2. Deselect and select a first point then (the important step)
    3. On the panel "Select" choose "Every Nth number of points" and click it.
    4. Now in the options choose a desired number.
    5. If you want to loose other points than these - click on Select Inverse (you may add a shortcut there also by RMB).
    Other steps are obvious ;)

    P.S. Sometimes I fails to select a point but it's due to selecting a control points instead of the main point.
