made in 1978 by harry bertoia

one of my favorite sculptural pieces... early interactive(?)

it stands near the entrance to the kresge museum at michigan state college... it requires you ask a museum intern to activate it...

with white gloves they approach the sculpture made of a series of cattail-like rods, they surround them, bring them together, then let them loose...

each rod acts rods like a pendulum swaying back and forth... upon touching each other they emit a sound reminiscent of the most subtle wind chimes...
sound travels in and out... softer and softer...

if you pay attention, the electronic nature of sound becomes evident...
