Used pflow with the birth rate set to 4,000,000 particles and Fumefx follow. Wrote out the particles to prt form via krakatoa. Loaded and duplicated via prt loader into magma editor, took the magnitude of the velocity, divided by the anticipated highest velocity value, clamped the values between 0 and 1, and assigned two blend colors. Piped that into the the blend node then applied a standard shader to the prt particles with a gradient color ramp set to vertex color channel mapping.
