Hi just wanted to upload this video to have a few opinions from non-skater.
I am doing a documentary about the urban life of skateboarders, and this could be something like a first visualisation.

Especially non-skateboarders are asked:
Are you interested in our view and perception of life as skateboarders?
Does this clip awoke some interest?

The offtext is very bad, i hate ma voice on screen ;)
And the slowmo at the end, is software tuned, few errors in there...

Anyways, what ya thinking?

Nice work, looks AWESOME. I love it! The end shot is great with the wind, also the reflection is nicely styled.

hey, thanks for ya comments, what are you thinking about the offtext?
How does my voice sound like, for an english native speaker?
  • astute 2 years ago
You have a very heavy accent. Sounds French.
Try to find someone who wants to narrate it (if ya want I don't mind helping you)

Also you are talking to much on a same tone level.

    Edit:
Things like wood, and work don't come out well. And I am not really getting the whole "what you would consider for the daily walk to work" bit...
I tend to not really consider falling down on my walk to work :S

yeah the whole offtext thing is difficult. i am german, so just learnt english. The film will be in german anyways, but maybe translated for the english folks.

I guess a speaker would be better :)

    hi, good question:
This is just a minimal part, about the urban life of skateboarding. We have about 4 protagonists in the film which will all have their own story in the film.
There is a lot of work still to be done.

And we travel from germany to america to gain big experience.
I will keep you informed and visualised.

    Hey Sebb,

nice job man. good poetic view about skateboarding but don't push it too far or you'll fall into some pretty widespread stereotypes. I think that a documentary about skateboarding should also consider (in a strong way tho) the dirty part of the thing.
nothing to say about the footy, it's just perfect. Hope to see the full video soon.. I'm moving to Koeln next september so maybe...a video premiere??
    keep up the good job.

I love your film that you are making its helps the people to understand the culture. Question are you going to release this in the US? I would like to purchase one.

I think your narration is charming. As a native English speaker, I think your rough attempt to speak a foreign language matches the skaters own novice attempts to speak the language of the varied urban landscape. It is a learned skill--at times, awkwardly executed. Doesn't every skater have their own "accent" anyway--otherwise known as "style"? I find your voice charming, impassioned, and sincere. You speak of skateboarding in sacred, reverential tones that opens my eyes both to its poetry and its appeal. Clearly, skateboarding is your native tongue. I have skateboarded a total of approximately 20 minutes in my entire life. Nonetheless, after watching your films I have decided that I, too, am a skateboarder and am "born to skate." Thank you. Keep your cinematography and editing polished (which is SO beautifully crafted). Let your NARRATION reflect the rawness of the skaters themselves. In the end, what's the worst that could happen? A native English speaker might ask themselves, "WHAT is he talking about? What did he mean by THAT?" Oddly enough, aren't those the very questions you WANT them to ask? Hmm...now that I think of it, couldn't you get a native English/Swahili/Spanish/Korean/Arabic/etc. speaker who "speaks skateboarding" to translate and read your narration in Deutsch for the same poetic effect? Looking forward to seeing your finished work...best wishes.
