Museums are conventionally viewed as institutions dedicated to the conservation of valued objects and educating public about past. National museums, in particular, have become sites of contention where national histories and personal memories are often at odds. Indeed, the truth for taking museums as makers of histories and identities might be quite blurred.
In this video, wishing for a Utopian museum, I tried to arise questions regarding the representation of history in a (national) museum. As a conceptual comment on the distortion which is occurred in museum representation, I tried to practice a deconstruction of absence in my video. Through erasing what supposedly set to represent a history, on footage recordings from national museum in Gniezno, Poland, I tended to redefine the relationship between personal memory and history within the concept of absence.
