I liked your video Casey. Nice editing and score. Can you tell me what kind of printer that was you used to print out your sign?
  • Casey Neistat plus 2 years ago

Hate to be a nuisance but your points go 1,2,3,4,6. Was there a 5th point intended?
  • Casey Neistat plus 2 years ago
no, no fifth point. i just don't count real good

Great video though. I don't live in USA but I still feel how agonizing this lack of signposting must be for you. Ha. What did you shoot it on?

  • Casey Neistat plus 2 years ago

When you were arrested, how long did they hold you? MTA cops like to arrest you for very stupid reasons. I spent 57 hours in bookings once for doubling up with my girlfriend.
  • Casey Neistat plus 2 years ago
they let me go. they pulled me and my friend out of the station. walked us around for a bit. told us to wait while they did something or another. yelled at us for while then let us go. i was very apologetic.

What if the emergency threatened life but NOT limb? Or threatened a limb but not the life? I'm thinking the signage should maybe be tweaked to "...life OR limb."

Just sayin. : ) Loved the video.

was a typo... thanks for noticing.

Looks like typical bureaucracy at work to me. Everyone wants to add their bit to justify their existance. Much the same here in Australia. Check out Myki problems here.
What an absolute joke. Lucky I can drive everywhere.

Great! Modern world is full of this kind of stupid rules. Good that some people can point them!

You are missing number five in your list/chart. This may be the main reason for being questioned by the authority's. They may have been waiting hoping for you to see this so they didn't have to call you out for touching the no-no pull.

As stated above, you are missing number five on your list/chart. This is more likely why the authority's questioned you. They were more than likely hoping you would see this so they wouldn't have to call you out for touching the no-no pull.

  • I liked your project…it was a nice subject and well done. I always wonder who it is who makes up public safety rules and signage. “Hey Mr. Doorman, you should put out the ‘Wet Floor’ signs before someone slips and falls”. “Oh no….then we’ll be liable because we knew the floor was wet”.

Great idea - well executed. The (long-distance) trains in Switzerland actually have a sign next to the emergency brake saying not to pull it while in a tunnel. But there's room for improvement, too :-)

Hey, i love this video. i learned about the emergency brake "golden rule" when i was a little kid and this woman actually waited until the train got into the station to pull the brake when a hobo was harassing her.

Great video Casey! Your work makes me think of Michel Gondry... you probably know him (in case you don't, it's the guy who directed "Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" or "Be kind rewind")... Have you ever come to Montreal? I am sure the subway signage here would be of interest to you!
    Cheers

The internet is so small... I came across your ChatRoulette video because of a random tumblog, and after watching I realized that I had seen your MTA video on my friend's blog a few weeks earlier: ifyouseesomething.org/ which is all about the frustrations of being a customer of the MTA.

    Thanks for the videos.

"Shortly after shooting this scene, policemen came to arrest me for throwing a fake baby on the subway tracks." LOL

Surely the real fix is not new signage (nobody would read them), but for the emergency brake only to cause the train to stop if it is in a station, or once it reaches the next station.

Which, incidentally, is how the passenger alarms on the tube work here in London.

I live in New York and this is awesome, yet the emergency brakes system would no be easy to use for babies or people falling in front of the train, because you cannot see the front of the train when you ride it...
