Geofiction Project - Starting Off...
This is the start of a new mapmaking project - one I intend to finish. This is merely a preview. I'll be making one more video, right up untill the finishing of this first portion.
The skinny:
Ankersfoort is based on cities found in the Netherlands - where I live. It's completely imaginary. There is a story behind it, an entire history - including one about the fictional country it's the capital of (Tatoningen -or, in english; Tatonia). I intend to go about this in A3 sized portions, extending the 1 million+ agglomoration with each new sheet.
My goal is to make this the most detailed map of a fictional place. If I can implement the placement of roadsigns, I will. The geographical location of the city and the country behind it are the result of 'research' since I was six years old.
Being completely addicted to maps and in particular city maps, I have been faced with the ever growing de-detailization (new word, there) of real, paper maps. This is a small protest against that. Great that Google Maps exists, but I feel for those who used to labour for months on the most intricate, most detailed of maps. This is a tribute aswell. Yes, it's made on the computer. But I'm not going to make it too easy on myself, now am I? :)
Scale: 1 : 2000
Or: 5 centimeters = 100 meters

Also, how do you record your work? I've always wanted to do that....spending so much time on them, it would be fun to revisit their creation.
