More than fifty boys and girls between the age of one month and eight years died at this orphanage. My team arrived to find the building in the same state it was at the time of the earthquake with very little recovery work having been completed. The bodies of the boys and girls are still in under the rubble. My assistant Peter Bradrick and I were told that one of the bodies could be seen through a small access point in the concrete, so we climbed through the crack to get at the body. We could smell the rotting corpses and see the flies, but we were unable to get deep enough into the rubble to identify bodies. I received a fairly severe injury myself falling with the full weight of my body on the sharp concrete blocks, which was a God-ordained reminder to me of the tremendous pain these children may have suffered, especially since many of the children who are now deceased likely survived for some time under the rubble.
