I've done some research with SOuP about transfering fluid attributes ( Density, temperature...) to advected particles channels ( OpacityPP, incandescencePP...).
It's done using mainly soup fluidAttributesToArray, and pointCloudEmitter nodes.

The rendering is not really good, it sounds simpler and better to render fire directly with maya fluids / mr. But using fluids channels can be usefull with Krakatoa in some cases.
