Avoidable pressure ulcers are a key indicator of quality nursing care along with avoidable high harm falls and the priority for UHS is prevention through safe care.
Turnaround is a process which has previously proven to significantly reduce both pressure ulcers and falls. To further support the ongoing campaign to engage staff with the key aspects of turnaround UHS has produced a DVD outlining the process in practice.

Here at University Hospitals Southampton taking care of your skin to avoid pressure ulcers or pressure sores are one of our priorities along with falls prevention. It is very important that the staff caring for you discuss what actions we need to take to ensure where possible that your skin is clean dry and free from soreness and that if you are at risk of falling we reduce this utilising appropriate interventions. For some of our patients it may be necessary to discuss what’s called a turnaround process. This is part of a risk assessment we use to ensure that every 2 hours or even sooner your care needs are met to ensure you are safe.
